Harry and Meghan respond to King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales hospitalisations

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have responded to the two health scares announced within the British royal family.

Last week it was revealed Catherine, Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery while King Charles was set to have an operation for an enlarged prostate.

Princess Kate is days into a two-week hospital stay before she heads home for a recovery period expected to last until after Easter.

According to Sussex royal sources, Harry and Meghan have reached out to their sister-in-law Kate, Prince William’s wife, along with Harry’s dad Charles.

“The duke and duchess contacted both parties in different ways to pass on their concern and best wishes,” the statement to the Mirror said.

The statement is considered an olive branch from the couple who stepped back from the royal family in 2020, and moved to the US.

Meanwhile, it has been reported the Duke of Sussex learnt about his father’s procedure in a text message that only reached him after he first read an article online, The Telegraph reported.

Royal sources have said Kate’s surgery was a “success”, with her two-week recovery in the UK’s largest independent private hospital now underway, according to the Daily Mail.

She is reportedly “doing well” as she marks five days at The London Clinic in Marylebone.

No details of the surgery on Wednesday were given, but a palace spokesman said the condition was “non-cancerous”.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the palace said.

“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

Meanwhile, Charles’ procedure was called “corrective” and his condition benign.

It is understood the king chose to share his diagnosis to encourage other men experiencing similar symptoms to get checked.

“In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the palace said.

Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) website described a benign enlarged prostate as a condition that can affect how people urinate.

It is common among men over 50, but is not usually a threat to life.

The two royals have both appeared to be in good health.

They were last seen in public on Christmas Day when the royal family made their annual visit to a church service near King Charles’ Sandringham home in eastern England.

Kensington Palace said it would only provide updates on Kate’s progress when there was “significant new information to share”.

It added that, on medical advice, she was unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
