Prince William and Kate Middleton share photo on 2023 Christmas card

Prince William and Kate Middleton have released their Christmas card for 2023, leaving many divided by their choice of photo.

The monochrome image chosen by the Prince and Princess of Wales shows the family all wearing plain shirts, arranged around a smiling Princess Charlotte who is seated on a chair.

William and Kate were photographed with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at Windsor earlier this year.

The photo, shared on X by the royals, amassed a number of comments from fans praising the choice of image.

“A fabulous picture of your lovely family,” one wrote.

“What a joyful picture,” another said.

“Truly beautiful,” a third added.

Others however were disappointed the photo lacked any festive detail.

“It’s an amazing photo and they all look gorgeous… but this doesn’t look like a Christmas card,” one wrote on X.

“Looks like a Vogue edit’s choice cover from the 90s. Beautiful but not Xmassy.”

Another claimed the image looked as if it had been taken at a photo studio in a shopping centre.

“Seems like a weird choice?” somebody else added.

“Not Christmasy, not one bit,” another commented.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also shared their choice of photo for their Christmas card, opting for a formal image showing the pair in the throne room at Buckingham Palace following the coronation.

Charles was crowned King in May, eight months after he ascended the throne, in a majestic ceremony at London’s Westminster Abbey that traces its history back more than 1000 years.

Charles is pictured wearing the Imperial State Crown, Robe of Estate and Coronation Tunic, while Camilla wears Queen Mary’s Crown, Robe of Estate and a dress designed by Bruce Oldfield.

The image – taken on the day of the coronation, May 6, 2023 – has been selected for the couple’s second Christmas card since Charles became King.

Christmas images used to decorate official festive cards are regularly released by senior members of the royal family with the cards sent to friends, family and colleagues.
