Sunrise host Nat revealed that Princess Mary had chosen to support Denmark in the game – despite her Aussie heritage.

“Princess Mary made her allegiances clear, look at this,” Nat said in a Sunrise report.

“Posting on the official Danish royal Instagram, the princess – along with one of the royal border collies – with the flag of Denmark on her cheeks.

“Signing off her post with ‘Come on Denmark.’”

Shirvo, Eddy and Beretts responded to Nat’s report with a chorus of loud groans, clearly unhappy with Mary’s Matildas snub.

With Denmark now out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Shirvo questioned what the royal’s next steps would be.

“It follows a week of speculation over who the Tassie-born princess would be backing in last night’s clash,” he said.

“Well, what happens now that Denmark’s out, hey? Jump allegiances again?”

Beretts then asked “What have they done to her?” before suggesting that Mary was coerced into sharing the pro-Denmark post.

“She didn’t do that of her own free will,” he said.

Eddy agreed, saying: “She was under duress.”

Laughing, Nat added: “She’s in the tower! Held against her will!”

“Stockholm Syndrome – not quite Stockholm,” Shirvo added.

Nat replied: “Copenhagen Syndrome!”
