A Mexican actress and model has been thrust into the global spotlight over rumours she was having an affair with Princess Mary’s husband, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
The speculation emerged after Frederik, 55, and Casanova, 47, were spotted visiting a Picasso exhibition and dining together at a restaurant during Frederik’s private trip to Spain last month.
Spanish publication Lecturas published photos of the two during Frederik’s visit while Princess Mary was on official duties in New York.

Frederik and Casanova visited a Picasso exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid before walking together through El Retiro Park and dining at El Corral de la Morería, a famous flamenco establishment.
But according to Spanish magazine Hola!, Casanova only joined Frederik when another acquaintance of his pulled out and asked her to go in her place.
Casanova has issued a statement denying the rumours, calling them “malicious” and untrue, and has indicated potential legal action.

Princess Mary body language analysed by expert as Frederik affair rumour denied
“I flatly deny the statements that suggest a romantic relationship between Prince Frederik and me,” she said.
“Any statement of this type is not only completely untrue but also distorts the facts in a malicious manner.
“This is already in the hands of my lawyers, who will take care of the pertinent steps to protect my right to honour, truth and privacy.”
Sources close to Casanova said she and Frederik were simply “old friends” who have “several mutual acquaintances”.

Who is Genoveva Casanova?
The blonde beauty is one of Mexico’s best-known actresses.
Born on November 30, 1976, in Cuernavaca, a city in the Morelos region, she has also become known as a socialite and philanthropist.
Casanova appeared in the 2006 film Goya’s Ghosts and has also featured in various reality TV shows, including the Spanish versions of The Masked Singer, Celebrity Masterchef and an all-star version of The Chase.
From 2005 to 2008 she was married to Spanish author Cayetano Martinez de Irujo, one of the five sons of the late Duchess of Alba, one of Europe’s richest aristocrats and a direct royal descendant of King James II of England.

Despite the split, Casanova and her husband have reportedly remained good friends.
The couple’s children, 23-year-old twins Luis and Amine, live and work in the UK.
After her split from her husband, Casanova was linked to Mexican singer Luis Miguel, although the pair never publicly confirmed they were in a relationship.

Her most recent romance was with businessman José Manuel Gayán Pacheco, whom she was known to be dating in 2022.
As Casanova publicly denied a relationship with Frederik, he and Princess Mary presented a united front as they visited a museum with Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Frederik’s aunt Princess Benedikte.
Australian-born Mary, 51, showed her support with a subtle message, wearing a necklace with her husband’s initial “F”.
The pair celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in May 2023.

How did Princess Mary and Prince Frederik meet?
They famously met at Sydney bar The Slip Inn during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Mary was 28 and working as a marketing executive when she began chatting to Frederik, then 32. At first, she was completely unaware he was Danish royalty.
“Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who these people are?’,” Mary later recalled in an interview.
At the end of the night, Frederik asked Mary for her phone number and called her the next day.
A long-distance romance ensued, with Prince Frederik making several secret trips back to Australia to visit Mary.
Mary moved to Paris, then Denmark, and the couple wed on May 14, 2004.
They have since welcomed four children, Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 12.
